Paul Weller at The Fillmore. Inspired by Weller's 22 Dreams album and Fellini's dream sequence in "8 1/2" 13x19"on card stock.
TV On The Radio - Fillmore
TV On The Radio Fillmore poster. I found their music to be like something mesmerizing from out of this world. Wanted to capture that wonder. 13x19"on card stock.
Yo La Tengo - Fillmore
Yo La Tengo at The Fillmore. 13x19"on card stock.
They Might Be Giants - Fillmore
Thought The New Yorker homage (and Saul Steinberg's classic cover) worked perfectly for this clever NYC band. 13x19" on Card Stock.
Moe. - Fillmore
Moe. at The Fillmore Rabbits, rabbits, rabbits... and the non-conformist turtle. 13x19" on Card Stock.
M83 - Fillmore
Based on a piece by my favorite artist, Francisco Goya's "The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters." The imagery was based on the aspects of Anthony Gonzalez's life... including the Smashing Pumpkins' "Mellon Collie" Sun and Moon. (That album inspired him to create "Hurry Up We're Dreaming"... 13x19" on Card Stock.
The Kooks - Fillmore
The Kooks live at The Fillmore. This art about a Brighton, England band made me delve into the the history of that city... So the background features the skylines of both San Francisco and Brighton... and in the center was inspired by Brighton's annual "Burning The Clocks" festival. 13x19" on Card Stock.
The Hold Steady - Fillmore
I always wondered what if would be like to redesign the Subway in NY. Here's one possible scenario. It includes a table with a few band references... The New Yorker, The Replacements' album and their own. The type for the band name was pulled from the New York subway where the band live. The band absolutely loved it! 13x19" on Card Stock.
Death Cab For Cutie - Fillmore
After reading about Ben Gibbard's happy place after so many years of turmoil, I thought an appropriate analogy would be the guy stuck at sea for years, finally arriving back to land (Can you see the Golden Gate Bridge's shadow?). He's equipped with a no-electricity needed turntable and a few albums... along with a copy of a Jack Kerouac book. He's also wearing an old Seattle Pilots hat and a SuperSonics shirt... 13x19" on card stock.
Sia - Fillmore
This poster was actually created AFTER the show, so it was not handed out as usual. Makes it kind of a rarity. I've got some, if anyone's interested. 12.75x18.75" on uncoated matte card stock.
Eels - Fillmore
Might be my favorite Fillmore poster I've ever done. Eels (Mark Oliver Everett) was dealing with so many traumatic things in his life and still manages to make such redemptive music. I thought of a man facing execution... ready for the end... then decided to show how it doesn't always have to be that way. The bird on his shoulder represents hope... and I added the "LIFE" motif to further add to that feeling. 13x19" on card stock.
Nada Surf - Fillmore
I was a big fan of Rogue Wave when I took this gig on... and my admiration for Nada Surf went up tenfold during the creation of this illustration. Always wanted to used the full space of the Fillmore poster with a single figure and tried to do that here. There's an "F" (representing The Fillmore) in every poster... this one was placed on the sneakers. 13x19" on card stock
Grizzly Bear - Fillmore
An illustration I liked, but didn't think it was working very well... then just cropped in tight and voila... worked a lot better. She's holding a snow globe with the city of San Francisco. Her necklace charms represent each of Grizzly Bear's three albums. 13x19" on card stock.
Widespread Panic - Fillmore NYC
Widespread Panic at the Fillmore Irving Plaza in NY. 19x13" on card stock.
Guided By Voices - Fillmore
Was so excited to do a Fillmore poster for one of my all-time favorite bands, GBV. Based on an old Russian film poster with the TransAmerica building to localize it. 19x13" on card stock.
Super Furry Animals - Fillmore
Love this Welsh band and Caribou, too! The font used on this came from the band, XTC's English settlement album. 13x19" on card stock.
